Searching on EBSCO Discovery Services

EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) a centralized search tool for information resources within the library system of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Basic Search

There are three basic search methods in OPAC, including:

  • Keywords: These are uncontrolled noun phrases, referring to topics related to the document that are not standardized or predefined in a controlled vocabulary system.
  • Titles: lIt is based on noun phrases or a passage related to the document's title.
  • Authors: These are proper noun phrases referring to the names of compilers, guides for works, research projects, or specialized books.

Advanced Search

The function of Advanced Search is to combine multiple search conditions at once using Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), including

  • TX All text: These are phrases recorded in a bibliographic record, such as document title, author name, subject, and notes...
  • AU Author: is identified name of Authors
  • TI Title: is identified name of books, thesis,etc...
  • SU Subject Term: is identified to subjects or keywords from materials
  • SO Journal Title/Source: is identified the name of journals or periodicals.
  • AB Abstract: provide abstract from journals, papers or reports,...
  • IS ISSN: is International Standard for Serials Numbers
  • IB ISBN: is International Standard for Book Number.

Full-text Search

CThe EDS centralized search tool is directly linked to databases within Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, as well as some external databases within the EBSCO system. To access full-text digital documents and read them online, registered users are required và at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh Databases.
Firstly, users must login to EDS (Following how to login). After login, users can search all materials, including:

  1. Ebook: To search for e-books, users should apply the following basic filters Full-text and Source types: eBooks; Then, choosing ebooks which are "Full-text finder. In the bibliographic record, readers will find information about the database (e.g., "Database:..."). Clicking on "Full-Text Finder" will direct readers to options for accessing the full-text content.
  2. Periodicals:To search for digital scientific articles, users should apply the following basic filters: Full-text and click Source Types: Academic Journals , then clicking on "Full-Text Finder" will direct readers to options for accessing Full-text.
  3. Conference Proceedings: To search for digital Conference Proceeding, users should apply the following basic filters: Full-text and click Source Types: Conference Proceeding , hen clicking on "Full-Text Finder" will direct readers to options for accessing Full-text.
